AGGETTIVO
L’aggettivo solitamente precede il sostantivo cui si riferisce e ha funzione attributiva.
L’aggettivo in inglese è invariabile, ad eccezione dei dimostrativi, che prendono il plurale (a beautiful landscape, hot and cold dishes). L’aggettivo può essere:
qualitativo - round, bad, silver, thin, light, intelligent
dimostrativo - this, that, these, those
distributivo - each, every, either, neither
quantitative - some, any, no, few, many, much, five, twelve
interrogative - what, which, whose
possessive - my, your, his, her, its, our, your, their
I sostantivi con funzione attributiva si comportano come gli aggettivi (The town hall, the city centre). Anche il participio presente ha valore aggettivale e quindi viene messo prima del nome (a torn pullover = una maglia strappata; a broken-down car = una macchina guasta).
